Here at Little Ladies Society we love Planet Earth and are particularly fascinated with the miracle of plant life. Lavender is one of the most popular herbs because of its unique and soothing fragrance. It is also widely used for medicinal & culinary purposes.

Zone: 6-10 (Oklahoma City is in Zone 7)
Sun: Full Sun
Height: 16 inches
Spread: 16 inches
Uses: Beds, Borders, Container, Dried Flowers
Sowing Method: Indoor Sow
Bloom Season: Spring, Summer
How to Sow
Start indoors about 6-10 weeks before last frost in a warm, sunny area. Sow seeds 1/4" deep in seed-starting formula. Place containers in a south facing window or under grow lights until seedlings emerge. Keep moist. Seedlings emerge in 14-28 days at 70-80 F.
How to Grow
Transplant to larger containers when seedlings have at least two pairs of leaves. Before transfer to the garden, accustom to outdoor conditions by moving to a sheltered area outside for a week. After last frost, set lavender plants out in garden 12" apart in a sunny, well-drained location with average soil in spring after danger of frost.
Harvesting
Lavender leaves and flowers are valued for their fragrance. Use them fresh or dried to make a soothing tea; add the dried parts to potpourris. Lavenders are excellent plants for a border, container, or rock garden; they also make a great low hedge.
